Optimize your Web Images for Google Image Search

Category: Search Engine Optimizationadmin @ 1:03 pm

Google image search is quite popular among users as thousands of them log on to the search engines to view images. If you were to have a high ranking in Google’s image search, your site would get a good influx of traffic. In other words, good images drive more traffic. The number of factors determining the image rank is quite less compared to organic search of websites. If you know the ground rules to optimize your web images, you’d find it simple to tweak your sites images to get a good ranking in Google image search.

Size of the Images

When images are big, they rank higher. Surveys suggest that images should be at least 10,000 square pixels to get a good score in search engines. Often, there are Google images making a top ranking in the search engine which were more than 333 pixels by 334 pixels.

Description

It also matters a lot to provide the properties of your image in the source code. For instance, the search engine spiders would not like it if you did not mention the width and the height of your images.

Don’t forget to name the image based on the keywords for which you want it to rank high in search engines. For instance, a “acne” keyword would have a image name as “acne.jpg”.

Similar to the file name, the Alt tags should also have the keywords mentioned in the text, apart from the salient properties of the images. The same case is applicable for the title tags as well. You should ideally have the same text for both Alt tag and title tag.

Optimization

Remember, the image cannot stand all by itself in the website. It has to be integrated into the body text. If you want your image to stand out in the online world and get top ranking in search engines, you should also consider optimizing the body text of your site with relevant keywords. Intersperse these keywords with the correct number to abide by the keyword density rule.

Image Site Map

If you are looking for quality inbound links that you can acquire directly to your image, you should create a good and detailed image site map. The image site map also allows the search engines spiders to know exactly what images the user is referring to.

Note that you need to also use right keywords in the anchor text when you are planning to link text to the images.

Bypassing the Google Framework

Google framework that comes before you can see the site where the image is located, is often a menace to the users. The users generally don’t have time to click unnecessarily on links to get to the website they want to check.

You can do away with the framing of your site by using a Javascript program. By using this feature, you’d be able to go directly to the page where the image is placed. Surveys show that more page views are seen when framing is erased from the search.

High Page Rank

If you build links, especially the inbound quality links, you’d increase your page rank (PR) – and, this would help in increasing the ranking results of your organic search option and image search option.

By using social and internal site tags, broader categories of the images, and accessible image folders, you can be sure to increase your Google Image search results. Make sure you review and edit the optimization effort from time to time to fine tune the work.
